Category 2 Test Pilot and Flight Test Engineer Course - P&FQ Focus

Course Description

A twenty-week EASA Certified course demonstrating techniques to evaluate fixed wing aircraft and helicopters for FAA/EASA certification. The course contains the EASA Category 2 training requirements as per Part FCL. Training includes flight time in various aircraft/helicopters.  Performance, flying qualities, systems, and the accompanying FAA/EASA certification procedures are emphasized.

Depending on the customers needs the course can be taken in one of three options: The traditional fixed wing aircraft track that includes light/medium propeller and jet aircraft; The traditional rotary wing track that includes single/multi engine helicopters; and the EASA Standard Category 2 track that only utilizes light propeller aircraft under 2000kg except for one Part 25 aircraft flight.

The course includes seven mandatory modules over the twenty weeks. Students will attend academic classes with other NTPS Professional Course students. This course is approved for approximately 36 credit hours towards a NTPS Master of Science degree program for qualified students.

There is an option to add-on 3 weeks for T&E 4105 Modern Flight Controls and Variable Stability aircraft.

Pre-requisites

Pilots: A minimum of 750 hours of pilot-in-command time and a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent military academy)  in math, science, engineering or related field plus medically qualified to perform flight duties.

 

Engineers: A bachelor’s degree in math, science or engineering (or equivalent military academy) plus medically qualified to perform flight duties.

 

All Students: English language proficiency is required as all courses are taught in English. Non-native English speakers must pass a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
